Abstract | In this study, bi- and multivariate analysis (CFA) have been used to interpret palynological residues recovered from the Devonian deposits of the Clairac Formation (northern Aquitaine) and the Saint-Cénéré Formation (Armorican Massif). These analyses are based on a quantification of the abundance of the main groups of palynomorphs (scolecodonts, chitinozoans, acritarchs, spores, plant debris, Tasmanacea) present in the deposits. They allowed a differentiation of palynological associations characteristic of each palaeoenvironment in both studied formations. For the Saint-Cénéré Formation, a palaeoenvironmental evolution from a shallow-marine near-shore environment, with limited land-derived input, to open-shelf conditions has been documented. On the other hand, the upper part of the Clairac Formation is characterised by a palaeoenvironmental evolution from a fairly distal and quiet shelf environment to shallow, shoaly and more agitated conditions. |
